I can remember playing Donkey Kong at the local donut shop with my father as a young boy. My father and I spent countless quarters playing that game. Later Donkey Kong turned into Pole Position I at the local 7-11. Man we wore that game out. Other childhood favorites included Q-Bert, Crossbow, Double Dragon, and Ghost-n-Ghoblins. I thought those memories would stay locked up forever since owning an original machine was way out of my budget. Then I stumbled across something called MAME. MAME is a program that makes a computer think it is a arcade machine. It currently supports 3,596 games. The kicker is it uses the image of the actual arcade game. That means all those games we played as kids we can play in the comfort of our own homes. Anyway, where is all this going you ask? I just couldnt get into playing those beloved games on a keyboard. So I bought a gamepad....that satisfied me for awhile but it also got old quick. What would satisfy my needs you ask? I had to build arcade controls. The only way to truly re-visit those old childhood memories is to play those games using arcade controls. Check out my sidewinder pro hack page for further information about this project.
